Antinori nel Chianti Classico: Architecture, Heritage & Tasting in Tuscany
Just 25 km south of Florence, the Antinori family’s flagship winery blends six centuries of winemaking with striking contemporary design—and a visitor experience that celebrates Chianti Classico from vineyard to glass.
The terraced, vine-topped winery designed to merge with the Chianti landscape.
Why go
- Award-winning destination: Named World’s Best Vineyard 2022.
- Iconic architecture: A gravity-flow, low-impact cellar built into the hillside (inaugurated 2012).
- Immersive tastings: Guided tours of cellars and art spaces, with curated flight options.
- Rooftop dining: Lunch with panoramic views at Rinuccio 1180.
Architecture & setting
Designed by Archea Associati, the winery uses terracotta, wood and Corten steel, with vineyards planted over the roof. The gravity-flow layout and naturally cool underground cellars minimize energy use and keep the building visually part of the landscape.
Wines & tastings
Expect a strong Sangiovese focus alongside select local and international varieties. Tours (like “The Tinaia Tour”) pair a guided walk through the cellar and art spaces with seated tastings. Advance booking is essential.
Rooftop restaurant: Rinuccio 1180
Named for the family’s forefather, the glass-walled restaurant looks across olive-dotted hills and serves seasonal Tuscan cuisine with Antinori pairings.
